We Are What We Think

April 29, 2016 by Tyrone Matheson Leave a Comment

So, how many times have you yawned so far?

I read the first paragraph a few times to make sure that it made sense and ended up yawning each time that I read it. Aren’t our minds so powerful?

As I sit here trying to piece together the things that I know that I absorbed today and wonder what things I may have unconsciously taken in, I’m left with my mouth gaping open.   To think, my mind is constantly filtering the good and the bad, shaping and making me into the person that I am, is mind boggling to say the least.

Inspired by the Book of Proverbs (23:7), James Allen shared that we are what we think; we are a complete representation of our thoughts. If you want to be successful but are always thinking about what you’re going to do if you fail, you’ll end up being a failure. If you want to be wealthy, but are constantly thinking about the debt that’s weighing you down, you’ll always be in debt. You are the architect of your life.

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
Author – Unknown

Since we all have the ability to control our thoughts, we each then have the ability to determine the course we desire to take in life. We know that if we want new results that we’re going to have to change our programming so that we create and do new things.

Taking charge of your thinking begins with learning how you think. How you think is about understanding the things that you feed your mind. It’s like eating, if you constantly feed your body with bad fats, sugars and artificial ingredients that I can’t spell or pronounce your body will hate you for it after too much abuse. However, if you feed your body with the right nutrients and natural foods, you’ll feel better for it.

We are definitely a product of our thoughts. The more that you reflect and focus on this true concept, hopefully you will become more determined to make sure that you’re feeding your mind with the right foods.

What are you thinking about?

Manufacturing Internal Change

April 29, 2016 by Tyrone Matheson Leave a Comment

A manufacturing company found itself without a clear direction following a father to son succession. Hoping to create his own legacy – and build the business – we were hired to help the organization develop a strong, growth-focused business strategy.

The Problem

Lacking a corporate strategy, the company was traditionally very reactive to market changes and internal challenges. Without forward thinking, sales and marketing plans, as well as internal policies and procedures, were developed as a response to change, rather than built to engage customers and employees. As a result, business development was stagnant, and the business failed to foster a culture of innovation.

Our Solution

We helped the company identify their objectives, and examined each functional area of the organization to understand their existing capabilities and determine appropriate key performance indicators to get everyone working towards a common goal. One of our largest tasks was the integration of sales and marketing, developing ways for those two areas of the business to work  together to leverage new ideas with customer feedback.

Furthermore, we created job descriptions for each employee, and an employee handbook to clearly outline the roles and expectations for everyone in the company. This empowered employees to take ownership of specific tasks, and provided a greater understanding of the company’s goals.

The Results

With a strong business strategy in place, and inspired employees, this company was able to increase efficiencies across the organization, resulting in larger cost savings. Focused on the company’s critical numbers, every team within the organization was working towards a common goal – and departments were held accountable for their performance. As a result, the business has become attractive to potential investors, who have shown an interest in being a part of this newly rebuilt organization.

De-cluttering the Balance Sheets

April 29, 2016 by Tyrone Matheson Leave a Comment

Organizing others is this business’s strength – but in order to continue to grow, they needed to spend some time de-cluttering a little closer to home. We were hired by this group of professional organizers in October 2014, and worked with the company for just over a year.

The Problem

This organizational company was in business for a little more than a decade, however, they lacked a solid financial plan. The absence of a strong financial strategy meant that the company wasn’t operating at their full potential – and was leaving plenty of revenue on the table.

Our Solution

We helped this company build a strategy around their financials, identifying key performance indicators, creating a pricing model, and adding extra services. Those additional services helped to maximize revenue from existing customers, and create new revenue streams to help grow the business.

With a clear vision for the company’s financial future, we were able to focus resources to areas of the organization that have a direct impact on the business’s goals for growth. In addition, we established a succession plan, identifying potential leaders and providing a clear direction to compliment the organization’s new long-term strategy.

The Results

The implementation of the company’s new financial strategy set the foundation for incredible corporate growth. With a clear plan in place, focused resources, and the addition of new services, the company was able to almost double its profits in 2015, growing by 94%. More efficient internal processes, and value-added services will continue to benefit the organization over the long-term, supporting the company’s desire for growth.

What Should A Business Strategic Plan Include?

April 29, 2016 by Tyrone Matheson Leave a Comment

business-strategic-plan

Most decisions we make as adults don’t present themselves to us as conveniently as we’d like… In fact, they can run the gamut from simply puzzling to downright daunting! Likewise, strategic planning may not come to you as handily as some other decisions you’ve made as a business owner, yet such long-term forethought is crucial to the life of your business.

Questions To Consider When Formulating Your Strategic Plan
Indeed, making decisions in life can be difficult. However, deciding on what to include in your plan can be one of the easier decisions you make for your business. These three qualifying questions can help you begin formulating your plan:

1: Where is my business right now?

2: Where is my business going to be
in 5-10 years?

3: How will I help my business get there?

Where is my business right now? Strategy is all about long-term planning. Consider sharing with, and continually reinforcing to, your employees the core values and purpose for your company’s existence (via your mission statement). Doing so can be a great motivator and morale builder; it may even foster more collaboration and collegiality among your staff.

Remember: one of the goals is to have everyone in the organization buy-in to the direction you wish to take your business. Consider too, the ever useful Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) assessment.

Where is my business going to be in 5-10 years? As great as they would be, crystal balls don’t actually exist. Therefore, when wondering where a business is going to be in 5-10 years, one is usually referring to vision statements.

Important points to consider are whether your business is sustainable in your current market and if your business model is adaptable to the competition or to market trends. If neither is readily apparent, the strategic plan must allow for such changes. But assess carefully, because internal and external factors need to be considered.

How will I help my business get there? Good strategic planning incorporates the best of your mission and vision statements. It should continue to provide value for your customers while allowing your business to become better positioned among its competition. This can be done by setting realistic, short-term goals and managing which priorities are most important for your plan to be “realized”.

“I’ve Realized I Need Guidance From Experts.”
Regardless of how diligent we may be in doing what’s best for our business, sometimes seeking expert advice makes all the difference. Upon coming to the conclusion that, “I’ve realized I need guidance from experts who will care about my business as much as I do”, it’s time for you to contact Tyrone Matheson. We can help you develop a strategic plan that will work best for your business while showing you how to develop solutions specific to your needs.

Our business consultants are readily available to help you move your business forward by taking a “hands-on” approach and working with you. This allows business owners throughout Southwest Ontario to grow their businesses through the implementation of systems and processes that drive brand value and increase profits.

Our goal is to help you grow your business the way you’d prefer… With your finger on the pulse of it all!
